Transformation Today

Fall 2024

The fall 2024 semester has commenced, and the DEI team has been hard at work putting together DEI learning and development programs. LMU staff and faculty are invited to participate in training programs to continue fostering personal growth through meaningful conversations and activities.

The Transformation Today series of workshops is designed to promote cultural humility across the LMU community. The series is open to all students, staff, and faculty with the goal of uniting the community and developing a caring coalition centered around cultural humility and cura personalis. Though change often occurs slowly at a systemic level when working towards justice, today is a good day to continue making transformations.

Here are the workshops for this semester:

UndocuAdvocate 1.0
Sept. 25, 1 – 3 p.m.
Collin's Center

Part 1 of the two-part series co-hosted by Undocumented Student Support Services (USSS), International Programs and Partnerships (formerly Global-Local Affairs), and DEI, UndocuAdvocate equips staff, faculty, and students with tools and resources to support LMU’s undocumented student population. This training highlights the significance of having a support network to help the undocumented student population thrive on campus.  RSVP

Part 2: Oct. 22, 1:45 – 4:45 p.m.
Von der Ahe 190

'Hisplaining' and the Burden of Language
Oct. 2, 2:30 – 4 p.m.
Tongva Memorial

The most commonly spoken non-English language in the U.S. is Spanish, but not all members of the Latino community speak Spanish. "Hisplaining and the Burden of Language" delves into this topic and explores cultural connections within the Latine/Hispanic community and the variations in language and dialect across the diaspora. This workshop will be facilitated by Claudio Rodriguez and Valeska Gutierrez.  RSVP

Navigating Spiritual and Religious Diversity
Oct. 9, 1 – 2:30 p.m.
Marymount Institute (University Hall)

Spiritual and religious identities are significant facets of human diversity. These identities are not only deeply connected to cultural or family roots, they also shape individual values, social and political beliefs. Having these discussions may seem daunting, but they don't have to be. This workshop provides you with the skills and practical tools needed to engage in meaningful conversations about religious and spiritual identity.  RSVP
